Superintendent Goals: Are Major Changes Coming for RIH High Schools and Enrollment Disparity?

The Superintendent Goals for 2024-2025 were passed unanimously by the RIH BOE on November 12 with no discussion.

As I had noted in my email to the Board, there is no alignment to the district’s Strategic Plan, and no goal to address Enrollment Disparity between the high schools, arguably the most pressing issue facing the district other than under Goal 2 which lines up under the Finance & Facilities Committee: "Conducting a comprehensive facility analysis to identify opportunities for optimizing space and resources to enhance teaching and learning experiences and to address the enrollment disparity.”
The Strategic Plan contained recommendations for study panels to collect data and figure out what factors impact student’s choice of high schools. The Superintendents Goals do not contain any attempt to collect data about the current school choice decisions that students make.
I’ve been pondering why the Board is not interested in collecting data about school choice, and how facility analysis would get at the issue of Enrollment Disparity.
Are they contemplating moving away from school choice and moving back to assigned schools based on residency? Are they contemplating closing a school building? Are they contemplating moving to a “Princeton Plan” type putting freshman and sophomores in one building and juniors and seniors in another?
Everyone in the community should be paying close attention to the Superintendent Goal updates for the remainder of this year to get a sense of where this might go. As of now there has been no discussion or communication as to how the goals will be measured, or when public updates will be made to the community.
