Happy New Year and welcome to 2025! Wishing you all a year of peace, good health, happiness and success. And wishing our 2025 Board of Ed members and our school community the same.
The next meeting of the RIH BOE will be on Monday January 6 at 7pm at the Ramapo Auditorium. Three Board members will be sworn in for a new three-year term: John Kinney (Wyckoff), Helen Koulikourdis (Franklin Lakes) and Joseph Valenti (Oakland). The Interim Business Administrator will read the Code of Ethics for School Board Members.
Then the nine Board members will vote to elect their new President and Vice President for 2025. Will Kim Ansh be elected again, or will the Board try to turn the page and adopt a more transparent leadership team that seeks consensus rather than stokes division? With Marianna Emmolo not returning, the Board has an opportunity to elect an entirely new leadership team, and I hope they do.
The district deserves strong, positive leadership to support Superintendent Shauna DeMarco.
Fingers crossed.
The remainder of the agenda is mostly routine, annual ‘re-organization’ items - appoint district officers, legal counsel (Porzio again), bond counsel, designate banks and official newspapers, approve all curriculum guides and materials in use until January 2026, etc.
Assuming there are no big surprises or dramatic walk-in motions like we saw in January 2023, this should be a fairly short and straightforward meeting.
